Nursery Manager

APRIL is one of the biggest pulp and paper companies in the world, based in Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau, Sumatera, Indonesia. PaperOne^TM , as our flagship plantation fiber brand is marketed in 75 countries in the world.

We manage 400,000 ha of Acacia and Eucalyptus plantations, and to support our plantations we have 3 large cutting nurseries, with a combined total nursery capacity of 120 Million plants per year.

We are now looking for an experienced Eucalyptus Nursery Manager to lead the construction and management of a new World Class Eucalyptus Clonal Nursery. We are looking for applicants who meet the following requirements:

• Diploma or Bachelor in Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture or related sciences.
• Minimum 10 years of work experience in large commercial plantation clonal Eucalyptus nursery production systems.
• Good communication in English, both verbal and written.
• Good leadership and people management skills.
• Good planning & knowledge of quality control systems, troubleshooting and ultimately improved plant recoveries for the cutting nurseries.
• Knowledge & understanding of commercial & tropical nursery issues - ability to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
• Willing to live and work in Riau, Sumatera, Indonesia.

Job description :

• Actively manage the design, construction and start-up of a new large Eucalyptus clonal nursery.
• Providing “Hands On” management and technical support to achieve rootstrike targets, quality standards, annual planning requirements, budgeted costs & genetic deployment targets.
• Achieve nursery annual plant delivery targets meeting SQA standards.
• Work with the R & D team to ensure the best available genetic planting material is propagated for mother plants production, and Pest & Disease is managed / mitigated.
• Implement equipment & infrastructure maintenance programs to ensure availability and performance.
• Drive continuous improvement and implementation of Best Management Practices within the nursery units.
• Coach, lead and direct nursery staff to ensure quality and SOP standards are implemented in operations.
• Support the Plantation Divison to meet monthly/ annual planting targets.
